Just in time for summer road trips and plane rides, activity-book publisher Klutz unveils some fun new products for school-age kids. Here are three favorites.

It's an age-old question: "How to keep kids entertained while stranded in airports, bored in the backseat or flying across the country?" One popular response: activity books!

Parents who pack portable activity books are rewarded with hours of content, occupied children. The California-based company Klutz is a major player in the activity-book publishing industry. It offers loads of products filled with games, brain teasers, arts-and-crafts-projects and so much more for children ages 3 and up.

Here's a peek at just three of the new Klutz products that have just been released for school-age children. Recommended age is eight and up.

TRIPtivities

This is a 120-page book filled with mazes, word games, road bingo, dot-to-dots, doodle space, fold-the-dollar-bill diversions and much, much more. It comes with an attached holder and pencil, so, in theory, kids always have a writing utensil. The book is bound at the top with flip pages with a hard back, so pages are easy to write on. $9.95

Fuzzimal Puppies

This book has the directions and materials for kids to make five cute puppies out of pipe cleaners and wispy yarn. It may not be the most travel-friendly of the bunch, since the kit includes teeny-tiny googly eyes for the dogs' faces. (Imagine trying to find those in the nooks and crannies of the back seat.) So, this might be more appropriate for crafting at a table in a hotel room, vacation rental or RV.

Other items required for making the puppies: nail clippers for sizing the pipe cleaners, a pencil for coiling the pipe cleaners around and scissors for cutting the yarn. The book comes with pop-out doggie carriers: the pup tent, doggie bag and puppy purse. (Cute!) $16.95

What About You?

The premise of this activity book is this: each themed two-page spread in this three-ring binder has survey questions that range from, "If you were a famous cartoon character, who would you be?" to "If you could be any breed of animal for a day, which would you be and why?" to "Describe your dream wedding cake." Girls place an included response form in the binder in front of the survey page to answer questions, then file them away for posterity or share with a group.

Moms and dads who are carpooling a bunch of tween-age girls to summer activities might appreciate this book to keep them entertained on car trips. It would also make a fun gift to stash in a young girls' luggage for sleepaway camp. Simultaneously, it's a self-directed activity, so a girl could answer the questions on her own, as well as survey others. The kit comes with a fun, bendable pencil. $16.95.
